Decision to Open Junior College – Society members
suggested starting junior college education as students
faced difficulties commuting to other suburbs for higher
studies.
Establishment of Smt. K.K. Shah Junior College of
Commerce – A commerce college was started at the Society
campus in Manekpur, Vasai, with the first program: B.Com.
The Bassein Gujrati Education Society (BGES), a professionally managed trust with a large number of prestigious academic institutions under its umbrella. BGES is the brain child of leading industrialists and socially conscious philanthropists who wanted to contribute to the local area by founding educational institutions.
The BGES was established in the year 1961 for the purpose of providing school level education to the residents of Vasai Virar region and the surrounding areas. In the Year 1990 Society decided to open a junior college; suggestions were received from the members to provide junior college level education too.
The absence of colleges run by Gujarati Managements in nearby suburbs compelled our students to commute daily to Vasai Virar colleges which was becoming increasingly difficult.
After careful consideration, the Managing Committee decided to start a Commerce College in the Society’s Manekpur campus. Smt. K.K. Shah Junior College of Commerce was thus established in 1992.
Although the college started by focusing on education to make learners self-reliant and to prepare them for careers in the commerce field, it gradually extended its scope to include the overall personality development of learners.
With growing competition, it became necessary to prepare students to shine in all areas. A college which started with an initial intake of learners has now grown to approximately learners.
It began with just one program of B.COM in 1992 and has added three more programs including Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts.
The college also started an undergraduate course in Commerce in 2002. In its journey of 65 years, the college has given many prominent Industrialists, Chartered Accountants, Fashion Designers, Advocates, Maharashtra Police officers, and Businessmen to the country.
